Protecting Waterways, Empowering Communities
Protecting our water with innovative technology to find pollution sources
Water Warden Network
Our network of community volunteers maintains our devices an ensure data is flowing and batteries are charged.
Powerful Technology
All our data is collected and stored in our cloud, where various data analysis and AIs are continuously monitoring our water quality and looking for patterns in the data.
Realtime Water Quality Data
All our data will be available here. It will be easy for a five year old to view data and sign up for water quality notifications in their area.
Fostering Community Action
We want to do more than just raise awareness. We want individuals in communities to know where exactly their water quality drops and suggest civic and political next-steps.
our objectives
Practical use of technology to drive real change in our communities.
We see ourselves as a non-profit startup. From open source software to people maintaining devices in our waters. We have a lot of work to do. Our goals for the end of 2025 are:

Who are we
Nerds and nature lovers who want technology to improve water quality.
We want to use the latest technology to make monitoring whole river systems economical and effective. We want to know where problems are and give communities the insights they need to make data-driven decisions.
What We’re About
We empower communities and volunteers to continuously monitor local waterways using our custom-built technology. Our unique network of Water Warden devices combines water quality data both upstream and downstream, providing comprehensive, big-picture insights across entire watersheds.
Our innovative underwater cameras enable affordable and effective monitoring. This data will be available in this website, where we analyze patterns, compare water quality, trace issues, and suggest solutions.
By leveraging this advanced technology, we offer a cost-effective, holistic approach to safeguarding our water resources.
We’re in Phase 01 now
Work Progress
Phase 01
Water Monitoring Device Prototype
Build our custom water monitoring hardware and software system. Create and crowdsource a version one. Start a community.
Phase 02
Data Analysis
Grow our community. Aggregate and analyze data from all our devices. Find patterns in the data and identify potential issues.
Phase 03
Public Access
Grow and support our community. Make data actionable and accessible. Reward change makers. Create public, intuitive websites and data access.
How Digital Waters Helps
01
Storm Water Overflow
Determine how often sewer systems overflow and the impact of rain water on local waterways.
02
Measure Development Impact
Collect water quality data along highways and developed areas. Compare with historical and other nearby locations.
03
Digital Archive of Our Water
We’re building a catalog of data for us to use in the future so we can see exactly where and how things are changing.
04
Neighborhood Programs
Track the impact your neighborhood water management programs are having on nearby water ways
05
Find Bad Runoffs
Determine exactly which drainage outputs into natural streams and waterways are responsible for most of the dirty water.
06
Algae Blooms
We analyze the color composition of water, compare it to similar areas upstream and in the vicinity, and pair it with other data.
07
Measure the Impact of Road Salt
Using salt to absorb moisture is wide spread and known to have harmful effects on nearby water.
08
Recognize Positive Action
With the data we collect, we can see positive improvements and will call out any areas with notable improvements to water quality.
09
Collect Any Data
Our custom-built devices can house a wide variety of sensors for different data points in specific situations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where exactly does my money go?
For every $100 donated, approximately:
- $45 goes towards the cost of buying water monitoring device component parts and then assembling, packing, and shipping them.
- $35 goes towards salaries and financial incentives.
- $20 goes towards admin and recurring infrastructure costs from the various platforms we use to run our operations.
What if I lose a device I’m given?
All devices have a GPS receiver. If the device still has energy, we may be able to locate it. Otherwise, if we feel all possible avenues to finding the lost device have been exhausted, we will ship you a replacement (one per 18 months).
I have time but not the funds. Can I help?
Yes, if you qualify for our Water Warden program, you may be eligible to receive a complimentary Water Warden device(s).
Can groups join?
Of course! From families to classrooms to concerned citizens, a group of individuals may decide to join forces and monitor anywhere from one to thousands of devices!
When will this service be fully available?
We are aiming for early 2025. Sign up to be notified when we nail down some dates!
