Get Involved and Make a Difference in Protecting Our Communities and Environment

Thanks for your interest in joining us!

Our mission is to continuously monitor our water and empower communities with actionable insights to improve water quality and safeguard our environment.

We are a non-profit technology organization with a focus on community engagement. We want to use the very best and cost-efficient tools technology can provide to empower communities without breaking banks.

Our organization has two main areas of focus: technology and community. Please email jason@digitalwaters.org if you’re interested in contributing to any of our open roles!

Technology

We provide people with affordable monitoring devices and a data platform to empower decisions. We work with the very brightest engineers and scientists to continuously improve our water monitoring devices and data intelligence.

Community

We put a lot of time and effort into making our water monitoring devices as easy to maintain and data as insightful as possible. But we need people on the water to maintain these devices and investigate issues our system detects. Our system can alert volunteers about things like low battery in the devices, or suspicious changes in the water color at one of the devices they manage.

Open Volunteer Roles:

Field Volunteers

Field volunteers manage our water quality monitoring devices in the water. Our field volunteers are responsible for things like:

  • Ensuring monitoring devices always have charged batteries
  • Investigate any weird patterns their devices are detecting
  • Making sure devices are generating and uploading data

Field volunteers get recognized for improving water quality data in areas they monitor. We publicly recognize and promote volunteers who help and make a difference.

Contributors

If you like what we do but don’t personally have the time or live near water, we are a non-profit and are thrilled for any support we can get.

Funds from contributors go towards funding devices for potential field volunteers who may have the time and commitment but not the funds. Funds from contributors also go towards various administration efforts, such as replacing lost or stolen devices, and general costs of running our organization.

Open Source Contributors

Our organization requires efficient use of cutting edge technology. We believe that constant iteration is better than delayed perfection. We’re always looking for good nerds with big hearts to help us improve upon what we have now, to help us build better monitoring devices, more efficient software, and ever improving AI and other data analytics to find more value in the data we collect.

A good place to start is by checking out our Github organization. We have all our monitoring device, cloud, and data analysis software hosted there. Find a project that you think you can help with and start contributing!

Organization Roles

We are looking to hire specific volunteer roles to help run our organization. Check out our careers page to see if there is a role you could make a big impact in. Email jason@digitalwaters.org for more information.
